*A gathering of new friends and old friends in the Mission on a Sunday morning
*"A brunch in Havana" was the theme, though themes for such casual gatherings like these are merely a rallying point, a kitschy framework.
*Michelle's banana rum cake
*JD's hogao, which is actually a Colombian tomato & onion sauce. Sweet and zesty, paired especially well with scrambled eggs & avocado.
*My roasted plaintains. I also brought frijoles negros and a 10 hour slow-cooked dulce de leche.
*Tropical fruits, like mango and pineapple.
*Freshly ground Stumptown coffee.
*Cheeses: basque tome chebris (goat + sheep), spanish manchego el trigal (sheep), spanish capricho di cabra (goat) -- the cheese were perfectly complemented by JD's homemade fennel & orange marmalade.
*Coffee & chorizo
*Many cups of coffee, a pleasurable weekend habit, especially because they fuel play and not work.
*Toasted challah from Wise Sons Deli.
*Crowded around a wooden table. Tight quarters, good food, good people. A home-cooked meal never goes out of fashion.
